The biggest ice rink in the city will be unveiled today in Gateshead. Christmas Ice Magic at Gateshead Quays rink is back for the fourth year running and will be double the original size ensuring maximum enjoyment for skaters and also that no-one will be 'left out in the cold!'
Overlooking Gateshead Millennium Bridge, with the most dramatic and picturesque views of the Quayside, the 600 square metre Gateshead Quays rink will hold up to 200 skaters at a time, and offers a great family day out.
As darkness falls the rink will be transformed with Christmas lighting and the addition of a fully heated rink side marquee, offering hot drinks and snacks, will ensure that spectators and skaters alike make the most of the 'Ice Magic' experience.
The rink has been commissioned by Gateshead Council and organised by event management company Polar Productions, working together to re-establish an annual event which was hugely popular at the turn of the 17th century, when communities came together to skate on the city's frozen rivers.
We’re inviting culture club members the chance to come to the rink and skate for FREE at our festive Ice Magic Event on Tuesday December 13th from 7.30pm – 9.30pm.
Each Culture Club member may bring along their families (up to 2 adults and 2 children per membership card). That's a saving of £17 per member!
