Culture club members can enjoy a night of female fun and laughter as Mutton comes to The Lamplight Arts centre on Friday June 26.
Mutton is a brilliantly funny sketch show joining three ‘40 / 50 something’ ladies for a riotous night of entertainment as they take a fresh look at all the trials and tribulations of reaching that ‘certain age.’ From hot flushes and memory loss, to HRT and bladder weakness. No subject is too taboo to tackle! Mutton promises to be an absolute giggle, appealing to women of all ages and the men that have to live with them!
Culture Club Members will have the opportunity to attend a tour with curator Judith King on Thursday,July 2 at 12.30pm at Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens. Judith King is a freelance curator and visual arts consultant who works mainly with English Heritage in the North East. She has curated five major art, architecture and design exhibitions at Belsay Hall, Northumberland including Living at Belsay, The Sitooteriss, Sitting Pretty, Fashion at Belsay, Picture House and now, Stella McCartney’s crystal horse at Belsay.
At a first glance, Stella McCartney’s crystal horse can seem to be a solid block of crystal but on further examination, the sculpture begins to provoke numerous questions. How did the horse get put together, where is it stored when it is not being exhibited, who cleans it and what inspired Stella to design the horse? Judith will help answer all these queries as well as talking about how she curates exhibitions.
The talk will last for about an hour. Culture Club members will see the magical crystal horse in the Castle and then continue the talk in Belsay Hall. Normal admission costs apply but the tour is free and will last approximately 1hour.
Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens are open from 10am to 5pm until September 30. Entrance fee is adults: £6.50, concessions: £5.50, children: £3.30, family ticket: £16.30 and English Heritage members go free.
Culture Club members have the chance to win one of five pairs of tickets to attend the exclusive the unveiling of ‘Looking out, facing in’, a semi-transparent steel sculpture of two human heads, one looking inwards and one looking out, one of the City of Sunderland’s latest piece of public art on Thursday, June 25, 2009. The artwork is being built around a pair of gas vents which ventilate the decommissioned coal mines below and was created by German artists Wolfgang Winter and Berthold Hörbelt. The Mayor of the City of Sunderland, Cllr Dennis Richardson, will officially open the artwork accompanied by a performance by dance company, Falling Cat. The performance ‘A Fine Line’ explores the relationship between two people who know each other intimately and their shifting relationship.
Sunderland City Council will be hosting this exclusive launch event between 11:15am to 1.15pm, a light lunch and refreshments will be served after the event.
Culture Club members can attend a summer evening of tasting at one of Tyneside’s newest wine bars Montpellier, on Thursday, June 25.
Montpellier Wine Bar at Gosforth High Street will be bringing in an expert from wine suppliers Matthew Clarke to talk Culture members through their leading wines and allowing members to sample the featured wines.
The evening, which runs from 6pm to 8pm on Thursday June 25, will include canapés and Culture Club members are also invited to stay on after the event and enjoy the live piano music or to dine from the bar’s extensive menu at a special discounted rate.
Montpellier offers a wide selection of wines and food including its traditional Sunday lunch with a variety of choices available.
Darlington Civic Theatre are offering Culture Club members two tickets for the price of one on all opening nights of plays in their Summer Repertory 10th Anniversary Season.
The season begins on Tuesday, June 9, and will run until Saturday, July 4, featuring three carefully selected plays incorporating comedy, suspense, and quality drama with some of the best contemporary actors, and presented by Ian Dickens Productions.
The first play is Killing Time, on Tuesday June 16, which is an intense and gripping thriller starring Hannah Waterman and Huw Higginson.
Write Me a Murder on Tuesday, June 23 is a murder mystery with an intricate maze of clues and crimes, starring Leslie Grantham, Christopher Villiers and Paul Opacic.
Pools Paradise on Tuesday, June 30 A sparkling period set comedy starring Ben Roberts and Frankie Fitzgerald.
All plays will be performed at 7.30pm, with matinees on Thursdays at 2pm. Tickets are priced from £12.50.

Alveus: solstice is the result of a collaborative project involving the local community and North Tyneside Youth Theatre. The memories, hopes and fears of the people of Wallsend have been woven together with echoes of mythic tales in a production encompassing puppetry, song, dance and party food!

A sisterhood is created between these four women as they realise that menopause is no longer "The Silent Passage", but an unavoidable stage in every woman's life.
Culture Club members have the chance to step back in time once again with the Time Bandits on Saturday, June 20 2009, this time they will be taking members back to December 1914, to the cold waters of the North Sea as a German battle squadron attacked the east coast of England.
A battle, the only one of the Great War to be fought on British soil, took place in the grey dawn light at Hartlepool. Here the 'Saturday Night Soldiers' of the Garrison Artillery and DLI maintained an unequal fight against heavy odds.
Due to the dedicated and painstaking work of volunteers the Heugh Battery has been lovingly restored as a major heritage attraction with a great deal to offer the visitor, a place where history was made. Culture Club members will stand exactly where the combatants of 1914 stood, they will hear a detailed reconstruction of the battle and enjoy a full, guided tour of the Battery, but they should remember German spies are everywhere and 'loose talk costs lives'.

Locomotion has more than 70 vehicles from the National Collection on display, including the original Sans Pareil, Timothy Hackworth’s pioneering locomotive from the historic 1829 Rainhill Trials. Plus a range of interactives help visitors to explore our railway heritage.

Culture club members have the chance to win one of seven pairs of tickets to preview of The End of the Line at Tyneside Cinema on Monday, June 8 2009 ahead of the film’s national release on Friday, June 12.
The film, which is being supported by Waitrose, is the world’s first major documentary to draw attention to the issue of sustainable fishing. Based on the book by Charles Clover, The End of the Line will do for fish what the Inconvient Truth has done for climate change.
Support from Waitrose for the film's UK release follows a long-term commitment by the supermarket to drive sustainability in fishing. Since launching its responsible fishing policy 12 years ago, Waitrose been taking wide-scale steps, ensuring all its fish are from sustainable sources and are caught using responsible methods. This includes a complete ban on many species under threat, and on damaging fishing methods such as beam trawling.
