Exploring our fears in a world of terrorism North East Centre for Lifelong Learning and The Time Bandits John Sadler are inviting Culture Club members to an exploration of the modern face of world terrorism in Ridley Building, Newcastle University commencing at on Saturday February 27; this will examine the effectiveness of the UK's response, explored through live interpretation, roleplay and drama.

Bede’s World this half term are exploring the myths and legends surrounding these magnificent creatures. Younger visitors can hear all about the death of the hero Beowulf at the teeth of a treasure-hoarding dragon and make their own clay dragon tile to scare off foes.

In addition to the family activities, visitors can also enjoy the museums stunning ‘Age of Bede’ exhibition where they can discover how Bede lived life as an Anglo-Saxon monk. The site’s Anglo-Saxon demonstration farm, which is always a favourite with younger audiences, also offers children the chance to make friends with some of the rare breeds of animals by feeding them.

Win a Hawking Experience day at Beamish Wild

Culture Club members have the chance to win a Hawking Experience day at Beamish Wild.
The morning is taken up with bird handling and training, learning to pick up birds, tie the falconers knot, flying birds to the fist, handling hawks, eagles, falcons, kites and other birds that are available at the chosen time of year.

After the handling, training and flying the birds, you then have a little time to have a look round and see the other birds, perhaps take some photographs, relax or have some lunch. The afternoon session consists of Hawking in the Countryside. You will be taken out of the Centre grounds and into some local countryside, with two of our trained Harris Hawks. This is where you will experience hawking.

The day will conclude with a photo session with our Birds of Prey on your arm.
